Olympic Control Area

Special restrictions have been implemented for all aircraft operating within the Class-F airspace referred as the
Olympic Control Area (OCA).

The airspace in the immediate vicinity of the Olympic Venues requires more stringent access and operating restrictions, and the Sea-to-Sky corridor affords a vital air link between them. Accordingly, additional airspace control measures have been implemented within a thirteen-nautical-mile radius of Vancouver International Airport and the Olympic Village in Whistler, and a ten-nautical-mile-wide corridor connecting those two circles.

The OCA begins at the surface and extends up to eighteen-thousand feet within the circles, and up to twelve-thousand-five-hundred feet in the Sea-to-Sky corridor.

Operations authorized within the OCA include, but are not necessarily limited to; emergency response, medical evacuation, Olympic security, law-enforcement, interdiction, operational support, selected media flights and commercial air carriers that meet specific security requirements defined by Transport-Canada.

All other individuals wishing to operate an aircraft into or depart from a location within the OCA must request and receive permission from V2010 ISU R&FA prior to doing so.

All passengers and specifically identified flight crew must submit to security screening at a TC-recognized screening facility prior to boarding an aircraft inbound to or departing from a location within the OCA.

All aircraft will be subject to search by Police of Jurisdiction (POJ), Transport Canada Security (TC SEP) or TSA personnel at Departure, Portal or Gateway locations prior to boarding.
